Re: (RL) The production
>>XTC released an album last year (Wasp Star) that made extensive use of
the Pod for its guitars, and I felt that it rendered the guitar sound a
bit sterile, but I may just have been missing Dave Gregory's presence -
he was the real guitar wiz in the band, and was shown the door by Andy
Partridge (XTC's resident genius and egomaniac) shortly into the album's
recording.
Here Ye! 'Black Sea' is one of the greatest guitar albums to come out of
the punk era I'm also a big fan of Robert Smith's playing on the early
cure albums and demo's. Minimal effort (in terms of production, movement
and complexity) with tremendous and enchanting effect. The third for me
would be 'Never Mind the Bollocks', which captures the greatest rock and
roll rhythm guitar sound and playing ever recorded by man! (Much thanks to
superb bass support in all 3 instances). Don't even get me started on the
Stranglers....
Sorry, drifting a bit!
