Re: (RL) The production

When I'm recording I need my guitar to sound like it does when I'm rehearsing with the band. If it doesn't I can't get the right feeling. I need the same volume (or usually even louder) to get the right compression and feedback and if it's possible I want to be in the same room as the amp so I can feel everything in my body. Lining NEVER sounds the same 'cause you can't play the same way as you are used to. Speaker/mike emulation and stuff can be useful when you're rehearsing at home but it can never be the same as the real thing. To get your guitar recorded realistic you will usally need both a mike close to the amp and one in the room. Just the ampmike sounds completely different, not like "yourself". The angle of the close mike is also very important. You have to experiment a lot. It would be great to know about for ex the 8" cabinet. To be able to play a little quieter. I need to crank the amp (master volume) to get the overdrive sound, I hate so called preamp-distortion. Only my own experiences. It would be interesting to know about yours, and Richards'.

I'd like to know the answer to that one, too, out of curiosity. I
know Richard's mentioned the virtues of the smaller (8" speaker)
Supro and Valco amps for recording, as you can crank them without
overloading the mic. (This became known as a Jimmy Page trick, 's I
recall...) Yeah, if the Pod was on _Cover_, I'll be somewhat
surprised, but...a lot of the tone resides inside the guitarist, it
seems.
