Re: (RL) All set for TT's!

Actually, the ATRAC encoding scheme was submitted as a candidate for the MPEG Layer 3 encoding standard. The current MP3 scheme isn't far removed from it, from what I understand.

The only issue I can think of in your case is recompression distortion. When you expand an MP3, then recompress it, the compression artifacts tend to get more pronounced. Hopefully, ATRAC and MP3 are different enough to avoid or at least mitigate the problem. Also, you're probably recording to your PC through analog anyway, so that should smooth it out some more.

Cheers!

Hmmm, I think 4 MDs will cover me. Spare AAs already packed :) This is
an insane little unit; I have the R70, the stereo mike, AAs, headphones
and patchcord all in the little drawstring bag, which in turn fits
into a (relatively large) pocket on my pants. It sounds great, too!

A friend of mine poo-poohed the MD format last night - too lossy, he
said. It's a hell of a lot better than a cassette deck, and a lot cheaper
than DAT! I think I got him started on his next project, though - a
wearable recording computer!

That's a bit of a haul! It'll take me about 2 hours to get home tomorrow
night, which should be just enough for the adrenaline buzz to wear off
(though maybe not - I'm still jazzed from last night's show.)
