Actually, that's Sony making sure you pay extra for S/PDIF outputs!
They're not going to put those pro-sumer features into their consumer items
until they absolutely have to.

I think the chief concern will be finding a place high enough for the mike
where you can get something other than the sounds of the two people in
front of you talking during the gig!  Maybe bring a boom-stand of your own
up on a milk-crate or five, or duct-tape it up on the wall by the board
somehow...
