Is anyone following Richard's lessons on the website?
Oh, absolutely. I've slacked off lately, though, with the workload
I've had, but I run through the exercises regularly. (The
pentatonic exercises haven't yet clicked for me--I still need the
site as an aide.)
I get to read them carefully every time I have to illustrate them (!)
And you're doing a fine job of it, indeed, Keith!
but I fear that sometimes I'm a little out of my depth. Or maybe it's
just the way I first learned to play the guitar was so... different?
I'd like to know what other guitarists think of them.
I find them very useful. Things have clicked for me in these
exercises that various other books couldn't explain clearly. I mean,
I don't want to sit there and memorize a zillion patterns; I want to
understand the pattern that *generates* the zillion patterns. I
think Richard's major scale exercises were a great example of
that--by skewing the fingerings slightly from the "box" system, he
showed how the fingering patterns wrap around as you go up the neck.
I dunno how other people perceived it, but the light bulbs went on
for me in a big way.
So yeah, I actually can't wait to get back to them on a daily basis.
Thanks for putting 'em up!
